Vietnam calls for accelerating transition in Sudan

(VOVWORLD) -Vietnam called on the government and stakeholders in Sudan to promote the transition process in accordance with the October 3, 2020 peace agreement, which promotes the participation of women and youth, said Ambassador Pham Hai Anh, Deputy Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the UN.

The Ambassador made the statement at Tuesday’s United Nations Security Council meeting to discuss the activities of the Committee under the Security Council regarding Sudan (Committee 1591), the situation in Sudan and the operation of the UN Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS).

At the meeting, Anh acknowledged the progress in Sudan over the past time and urged Sudan to strengthen its responsibility in protecting civilians and addressing the root causes of violence between communities, including strengthening dialogue and reconciliation.

The Ambassador shared the call for effective implementation of frameworks for the protection of civilians, especially at the grassroots level, with international support of resources and capacity building.
