(VOVworld)- Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Nguyen Thien Nhan has urged Vietnamese people from all walk of life both inside and outside the country to help victims of typhoon Wutip.

Nhan made the appeal in Hanoi on Wednesday saying that practical assistance will help local people stabilise their lives and resume production.

The Vietnam Fatherland Front received nearly 1.4 million USD on the first day of the campaign from individuals and organizations. Hanoi contributed almost 330,000 USD from its Rescue Fund to help people in six central provinces. The Ho Chi Minh City Fatherland Front donated 470,000 USD, while the Vietnam National Oil and Gas group gave 256,000 USD. In response to the appeal, on Thursday all members of the National Assembly Office gave up at least one day’s salary to help flood victims restore production and stabilize their lives.

According to the latest report from the National Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control, typhoon Wutip had claimed 9 lives and injured 199 in six central provinces as of October 2.
