Vietnam’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang said that at the national level, people should be placed at the centre of every development policy and strategy. Countries should give priority to building a solid macro economic foundation and improving their economy’s resilience to shocks.

Regional cohesion and cooperation and regional and sub-regional mechanisms should be stepped up to address challenges and promote sustainable development through the sharing of lessons, practices and models, Giang said.

Ambassador Giang called for an end to conflicts, peaceful settlement of disputes in line with international law and the UN Charter, the immediate lifting of unilateral embargo measures that run counter to international law, the continuation of reforming the UN system, and strengthening international cooperation and solidarity, including South-South and trilateral cooperation.

Ambassador Giang said that Vietnam always joins regional and global efforts to advance sustainable development and improve people’s lives.

He called on the international community to support Vietnam’s candidacy for a seat on the UN Human Rights Council for the 2023-2025 tenure.
