Vietnam calls on ASEAN and China to unite to boost regional cooperation

(VOVWORLD) - ASEAN and China have greatly contributed to peace, stability and prosperity in the region and the world by maintaining a dialogue and promoting cooperation for 30 years, said Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh via video conference on Thursday at the opening ceremony of the 18th China-ASEAN Expo and China-ASEAN Trade and Investment Summit in Nanning, China.

Mr. Thanh said bilateral economic and trade cooperation has seen breakthrough development, with two-way trade turnover increasing 80-fold in the past 30 years, making China and ASEAN each other’s biggest trading partner. The two have also been cooperating in the fight against COVID-19.

Deputy Prime Minister Thanh said that in the coming time, ASEAN-China cooperation will focus on new opportunities created by the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement and the ASEAN-China Free Trade Agreement, and on the digital economy.

He said Vietnam hopes China will help Vietnam and ASEAN obtain COVID-19 vaccines and the technology to produce vaccines.
