Vietnam, China aim to sign Vision on Defense Cooperation

(VOVworld)- On Friday, the 6th Vietnam-China Deputy Ministerial Strategic Dialogue on Defense opened in Sichuan, China. Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Defense Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh and Admiral Sun Jiaguo, Deputy Chief of the Joint Staff of China’s Central Military Commission co-chaired the dialogue.

At the event, the two sides praised the development of bilateral defense cooperation which has contributed to the Vietnam-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. They agreed to expand cooperation in the defense industry, military medicines, search and rescue, and Chinese and Vietnamese language training for border soldiers and marine police. They agreed to assign relevant agencies to draft a Vision on Vietnam-China Defense Cooperation and an agreement on Vietnam-China Border Defense Friendship Exchanges.

The two sides discussed their differences concerning the East Sea issue. In this regard, Mr. Vinh reiterated Vietnam’s consistent view of settling disputes through peaceful means in line with international law. He said Vietnam is determined to defend its national sovereignty in line with international law and with respect for interests of involved parties. The two leaders agreed to better control their differences and strengthen communications to help the armies and peoples of the two countries to abide by the common perceptions of the two Parties and States over the East Sea issue.
