Vietnam committed to joining NAM efforts on women’s advancement

(VOVworld)- More than 300 delegates from around the world attended the 3rd ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) on the Advancement of Women in Doha, Qatar from February 12th to the 14th. High on the agenda were challenges to the advancement of women cause, experience and initiatives in empowering women and cooperation between member states to achieve the common goals of the movement.

Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Le Luong Minh

Deputy Foreign Minister Le Luong Minh, who headed the Vietnamese delegation spoke highly of efforts by the movement’s members to implement the 2009 Guatemala declaration and plan of action to promote the advancement of women. He also welcomed the establishment of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), considering it a driving force to boots gender equality worldwide. Deputy FM Minh informed delegates of Vietnam’s active contributions to the advancement of women and children under the ASEAN framework. He cited the endorsement of the 2010 Ha Noi Declaration on the Enhancement of Welfare and Development of ASEAN Women and Children as well as the formation of the ASEAN Commission for Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children (ACWC). The Vietnamese diplomat emphasized Vietnam’s commitment to strengthening cooperation and experience sharing with other member countries to effectively implement the Doha declaration and plan of action.
