Vietnam continues to revise Labor Code to promote gender equality

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam’s 2012 Labor Code will continue to be revised to ensure workers’ rights and gender equality, said Deputy Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Thi Ha.

She made the remarks at a consultation workshop entitled “Promoting gender equality through revision of the Labor Code” held by the Australian Embassy and the UN Women in Hanoi on Friday. There is evidence that Vietnam has narrowed its gap with the world in terms of gender equality, said Ms. Astrid Bant, UNFPA Representative in Vietnam. She added that it’s high time for Vietnam to take further steps forward in economic development with the support of a high performance workforce and by the generation of new jobs, especially in the fourth Industrial Revolution.

“The upcoming revision of the Labor Code presents an opportunity to strengthen Vietnam’s legal framework in support of gender equality and human labors’ rights. Guaranteeing decent work for all workers in Vietnam will consequently support the UN’s continued commitment to work with the governments, lawmakers, civil society, and all stake holders in order to strengthen Vietnam’s resilience to economic crisis, take revolution changes and globalization by realizing gender equality”, said Ms. Astrid Bant.

Participants contributed opinions Labor Code’s revised regulations to ensure and promote gender equality, stressing benefits of ensuring gender equality in the working environment.
