At a reception in Hanoi on Friday for the visiting Czech Foreign Minister Lubomir Zaoralek, President Truong Tan Sang praised the Czech Republic’s recognition of the Vietnamese community in their country as an ethnic group, adding that both nations should adopt new measures in cultural cooperation.

Mr. Sang spoke highly of the organization of business forums in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to make cooperation in economics, trade, and investment practically efficient.

Regarding the Czech leader’s concern about the East Sea issue, President Sang said Vietnam hopes the parties involved will address the tension through peaceful dialogues with respect to international law, particularly the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.

He noted that Vietnam resolutely opposed unilateral acts regardless of international law which are aimed at changing the status quo and making the situation more complicated.

Minister Zaoralek said that with Vietnam’s improved position in the international arena, the Czech Republic wanted to have a reliable partner in Asia.
