Vietnam delivers commitment on net-zero emissions by 2050

(VOVWORLD) -Vietnam does not exchange environment for economic development and disapproves environmentally unfriendly projects, said Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh.

Deputy Prime Minister Thanh told a national environmental conference in Hanoi on Thursday that the environment sector should change its mindset drastically and enhance public awareness of sustainable and environmentally-friendly lifestyle, thus harmonizing the relationship between economic development and environmental protection.

He called for a switch to green economy and resource intensive to knowledge-based, digital, circular and low-carbon economy.

“We will not sacrifice the environment in exchange of economic growth. This has been reinstated in development strategy where net-zero is an absolute objective by 2050.”

The event is part of the 20th founding anniversary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Environment.
