Vietnam deploys citizen protection in Seoul stampede

(VOVWORLD) - A Vietnamese citizen is among at least 151 people killed in a Halloween celebration crowd crush in South Korea's Seoul Saturday night, the Vietnam embassy confirmed Sunday.

The embassy said it was cooperating with local authorities to verify information and the identity of the deceased Vietnamese citizen.

It has also requested South Korean authorities to investigate the cause of the incident and performing necessary citizen protection measures to protect the rights and interests of Vietnamese citizens.

The consulate department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is also cooperating with local authorities to verify the identity of the victim and perform necessary procedures.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs assigned the Vietnamese Embassy to closely follow the incident and work closely with local agencies to deploy necessary citizen protection measures.

About 100,000 people had converged in Itaewon that night, as at least 151 people died and dozens more were injured.
