Addressing the Society’s national congress, Tien urged the Society to reform  its activities and continue to promote Vietnam's fisheries to sustainably grow and integrate into the region and the world.

Tien also asked the Society to step up communications to raise fishermen’s awareness of their commitments to the community and to working with the authorities at all levels to remove the yellow card imposed by the EC on illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

Tien urged the organization to develop the branding of aquatic products, trade promotion activities, stabilize and expand consumer markets, and create a network to provide market information to businesses and fishermen.

On this occasion, the Vietnam Fisheries Society changed its name to the Vietnam Fisheries Association.
