Vietnam fulfills its multilateral tasks

(VOVWORLD) -  Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh had bilateral meetings with foreign leaders of Tunisia, Hungary, Chile, Burundi, and Germany on the sidelines of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 74) in New York on Friday.

At the meetings, the foreign leaders praised Vietnam’s election to the UN Security Council Non-Permanent Membership in the 2020-2021 tenure and holding of ASEAN Chair in 2020 saying the posts reflect Vietnam’s increased international status. They hoped Vietnam will bring into play its role in these posts to further contribute to maintaining world peace and security and promoting trade liberalization and global governance.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh reiterated Vietnam’s determination to fulfill its multilateral tasks at the UN Security Council and asked countries to work closely with Vietnam at multilateral forums including the UN and ASEAN.

The same day, Mr. Minh attended the G77 Ministerial meeting on the sidelines of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 74).  He also participated in a talk with American enterprises organized by the Business Council for International Understanding and the AES Energy Corporation. Mr. Minh is expected to deliver a speech at the senior discussion of the UN General Assembly on Saturday which will focus on strengthening multilateral efforts to reduce poverty, promoting quality education, working for inclusive growth, and coping with climate change.
