Vietnam gears up efforts to have “yellow card” on IUU fishing removed

 The EC urges Vietnam to set up satellite tracking devices on all fishing ships of at least 24m, tightly control ships in habors or at sea, and systematically use data from satellite tracking devices to ensure all products are exported to the EU legally from the beginning of next year. Nguyen Hoai Nam, Vice Secretary of the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), said more than 60 businesses are committed to eliminating IUU fishing by buying seafood only from legal ships with clear origins. He said: "The Association’s businesses expect stronger measures from local authorities. We need to implement the Fisheries Law and the Prime Minister’s resolutions, decisions, and instructions to prepare for the EC’s inspection trip to Vietnam next year."

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development urged agencies at all levels to increase fishery management, particularly in localities targeted by the EC’s “yellow card”.
