National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan told the delegates that Vietnam is promoting joint initiatives to develop the Greater Mekong Sub-region, particularly in transport infrastructure, cross-border economic cooperation, and human resources. She called for joint efforts of Vietnam, China, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, and Thailand to boost the region’s strength.

“Our 6 countries share the Mekong river and a desire for peace, stability, and prosperity. I hope regional border defense forces will better cooperate in the fight against cross-border criminals, natural disaster relief, and natural resource protection, particularly the Mekong river's water source. We should work together to build our shared borders of peace, friendship, cooperation and development,” Madam Ngan noted.

The “Border of friendship” exchange program is held every two years.
