Vietnam jointly addresses global migration challenges

(VOVWORLD) -Vietnam’s implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) has been fruitful in three aspects, including fine-tuning policies and laws; collecting data on international migration; and promoting international cooperation to expand legal, safe migration channels, ensuring social security and health rights of migrants, said a Vietnamese senior official.

Phan Thi Minh Giang, Deputy Director of the Consular Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, delivered a national speech at the second meeting to review the implementation of the GCM Agreement in the Asia-Pacific region from Tuesday to Thursday in Bangkok, Thailand.

The session was attended by 250 delegates from member countries and observers of the Economic and Social Commission of Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), plus intergovernmental organizations, non-governmental organizations and other relevant parties. The Vietnamese delegation actively exchanged at roundtable discussions on the 23 specific goals of the agreement.

Vietnam requests that the UN Migration Network continue to support member countries in implementing the GCM Agreement in accordance with their priorities, and developing strategies to promptly respond to emerging challenges in international migration today, Giang said.

Vietnam, the International Labor Organization (ILO), the German International Cooperation Organization (GIZ) and Nepal co-chaired a side event themed "Protecting migrants working in care and domestic work: Legal protection, legal frameworks and listening to the voices of workers".
