The team led Southeast Asia and secured the 16^th place in Asia. The progress was attributed to Vietnam’s outstanding performance at the recent 2019 Asian Cup in the United Arab Emirates where the team advanced to the quarterfinals and lost 0-1 to Japan.

This is the first time in 8 years Vietnam has reached the 99^th place. The country’s highest ever ranking was 98^th in 1998 and 2003.
