Vietnam plans sustainable development

(VOVworld) - Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan on Friday chaired a meeting of the National Council for Sustainable Development and Competitiveness Building.

Established last year, the council has developed and submitted to the Government strategies and key policies to set orientations and a legal framework for the country’s sustainable development in the next decade. In his opening address, Mr. Nhan said 2013 is a pivotal year of the five-year-plan from 2011, so the council should report on the actual state of Vietnam’s sustainable growth and complete a report on Vietnam’s competitiveness for the government’s approval. Mr. Nhan said: "We need to review the 30 criteria to estimate next year’s sustainable growth. We should have a communication project on sustainable growth and identify impact of sustainable development failure in society, environment, and economy".

The council is working on measures, mechanisms, and policies to implement tasks of the National Strategy on Green Development and boost the establishment of a ASEAN Green Development Center in Vietnam.
