Vietnam pledges assistance to Cuba

(VOVworld) – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung who is in Cuba for a state visit held talks with the President of the State Council, visited the Cuban Institute for Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), laid floral wreath at President Ho Chi Minh Monument, and worked with the Vietnamese Embassy in Havana.

Earlier upon his arrival, Dung laid a wreath at a memorial dedicated to Cuban national hero Jose Marti in Havana and met Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, First Vice President of the Council of the State and the Council of Ministers of Cuba. The two leaders discussed measures to make the bilateral cooperation more effective in the future with focus on strengthening cooperation between the two Parties, governments, and peoples.
Prime Minister Dung affirmed that Vietnam is ready to cooperate and support Cuba in the areas Vietnam has advantages. He said tightening the special Vietnam-Cuba bond will help foster Cuba’s relations with East Asia and Vietnam’s relations with Latin America. The two leaders encouraged their Vietnamese and Cuban ministries and agencies to realise the Political Consultation mechanism between their foreign ministries, and support each other at multilateral forums.
In regards to economic cooperation, Mr. Miguel Diaz-Canel proposed Vietnam continue assisting Cuba in agriculture development. Prime Minister Dung voiced Vietnam’s commitment to provide additional assistance for the second phase of maize, soybean and aquaculture projects in Cuba.
The two leaders also discussed measures to boost Vietnam-Cuba cooperation in health care, biotechnology, oil and gas, construction, tourism, electronics, and telecommunications.
On Thursday, President of the Council of State and Council of Ministers, Raul Castro Ruz, chaired an official ceremony to welcome Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung. They then held talks and witnessed the signing of significant cooperation agreements.
