His presentation was part of an online meeting of the International Seabed Authority (ISA), chaired by its Secretary-General Michael Lodge, to review a report on ISA’s contributions to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Ambassador Quy said scientific research is critical to the realization of environmental and economic goals under the 2030 Agenda. ISA, which is given the unique authorization to license and manage scientific research, was advised to encourage marine research, share information, and transfer technology to developing nations.

Ambassador Quy demanded that exploration and exploitation of resources conform with the Principle of Region to ensure equity in the developing world.

He said Vietnam is committed to honoring the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and documents related to the sustainable, peaceful use of the seas, oceans, and marine resources.
