(VOVWORLD) - The 40th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) wrapped up in Bangkok on Thursday.

Vietnam’s National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan expressed her honour to receive the AIPA chairmanship for 2019-2020 from Speaker of the Thai House of Representatives and Chair of AIPA 40th Chuan Leekpai.
Mrs. Ngan said that 2020 will be a special year for Vietnam when the country holds the position of a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, Chair of ASEAN, and Chair of AIPA 41. The National Assembly of Vietnam will continue innovating AIPA activities and increasing the role and position of the AIPA in building the ASEAN community.
She added that through activities within the framework of the AIPA, Vietnam will continue enhancing cooperation between the AIPA and the ASEAN, international organisations and multilateral cooperation mechanisms to boost the implementation of commitments and plans outlined in the building of the ASEAN Community, with a vision to 2025.
Mrs Ngan said: “The Vietnamese National Assembly will do its best as the AIPA Chair. We hope to receive support and cooperation from Thailand’s parliament, AIPA members, AIPA Secretariat, and ASEAN Secretariat to build a prosperous ASEAN Community. I’d like to conclude my presentation with a saying of President Ho Chi Minh that “unity, unity, great unity; success, success, great success. We look forward to welcome you in Quang Ninh province next August.”
After the ceremony to receive the AIPA chairmanship for 2019-2020, Vietnamese National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and Speaker of the Thai House of Representatives and Chair of AIPA 40 Chuan Leekpai co-hosted a press conference.
Mrs Ngan said: “We are proud to receive the Chairmanship of AIPA 41 from the Chair of AIPA 40 Chuan Leekpai. The parliaments of Vietnam and Thailand have agreed to share experience to successfully organize the AIPA 41 and raise status of its members towards a united and sustainable ASEAN Community.”
