Vietnam’s priorities for its two years on the Security Council are preventing conflicts, promoting preventive diplomacy, and dealing with disputes peacefully.

Vietnam will try to reform the Council’s operations and increase cooperation between the Council and regional organizations. Vietnam will pay attention to the protection of civilians and critical civilian infrastructures in armed conflict, peace and security, women’s rights, and children in armed conflict. It will work to address the aftermath of armed conflicts, including threats to civilian populations posed by landmines and unexploded ordnance. Vietnam will promote UN peacekeeping activities and solutions for mitigating climate change.

Vietnam has always been a responsible member who makes active contributions to all UN activities. Joining the Security Council reflects Vietnam’s foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, openness, diversification, and multilateralization and its advocacy of peace, cooperation, and development.
