Vietnam Trade Union of the new tenure to boost grassroots activities

(VOVworld) – The 11th National Congress of Vietnam’s Trade Union concluded in Hanoi on Tuesday. The event elected a 172-member executive board and President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Dang Ngoc Tung was reelected for the new term. Tung said the congress approved programs and goals for the next 5-year term and the revised Statute of Vietnam’s Trade Union. He added that Vietnam’s Trade Union expects to have 10 million members and that 90% of businesses will establish their own trade unions by 2018: “The success of the congress creates momentum for the trade union movement nationwide. This will consolidate the strength of the working class and trade unions, contributing to the country’s drive towards modernization, industrialization and international integration.”

President Tung said from now until 2018, trade unions at all levels will focus more on personnel training and the rights of workers in industrial parks and processing zones, while promoting the role of the working class in Vietnam’s efforts to become an industrialized nation by 2020.
