Vietnam, UK elevate ties to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

During their talks as part of Mr. Lam’s official visit to the UK, the two leaders affirmed that Vietnam and the UK hold vast potential for expanded cooperation, particularly in green and sustainable economic transition, digital industry development, and high-quality human resource training.

PM Starmer expressed his wish to work closely with Vietnam to advance a comprehensive bilateral partnership, especially within the frameworks of the UK-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (UKVFTA) and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

He said the UK Government is ready to support Vietnam in realizing its net-zero emissions goal by 2050, encourage British investment and cooperation in Vietnam, and assist the country in implementing the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP).

Both sides agreed to double bilateral trade in the coming years.

PM Starmer also called for Vietnam’s support in promoting e-commerce and financial services cooperation within the CPTPP framework.

On security and defense, the two leaders agreed to diversify cooperation, jointly address illegal migration, and strengthen collaboration in peacekeeping operations and training.

They emphasized that the upgrade of relations, along with the signing of several cooperation agreements in migration, green finance, education and training, healthcare, clean and renewable energy, and local partnerships, holds profound significance, laying a solid foundation to further deepen and expand the bilateral partnership.
