Vietnam urged to optimize benefits from EVFTA

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam should make thorough preparations to enjoy a zero tax-rate once the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) takes effect next year. 

Claudio Dordi, technical assistance team leader of EU-MUTRAP, the EU-Vietnam Multilateral Trade Assistance Project, made the remarks at a Thursday workshop in Hanoi on EVFTA’s impacts on Vietnam’s economy. Mr. Dordi informed delegates that the EU market consists of consumers with high incomes and strict technical barriers.

Former Minister of Trade Truong Dinh Tuyen proposed that the government clearly identify spearhead exporters and map out development plans for auxiliary industries. Tuyen stressed the need to fine-tune Vietnam’s legal framework to meet EVFTA requirements regarding labor, investment environment, and intellectual property regulations.
