Deputy Defense Minister Nguyen Chi Vinh and US Assistant Secretary of Defense for Asian and Pacific Security Affairs Randall Schriver exchanged views on global and regional issues of shared concern, reviewed this year’s collaborative results, and discussed future cooperative plans. They pledged to realize plans agreed during Secretary of Defense Mark Esper’s visit to Vietnam last month and further strengthen the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Partnership.

Mr. Vinh applauded the Bien Hoa Airport dioxin remediation project, which began in the southern province of Dong Nai early this month. He introduced Vietnam’s 2019 White Paper on National Defense and its initiatives for ASEAN Year 2020.

Assistant Secretary Schriver praised the US’s Comprehensive Partnership with Vietnam and said he hopes Vietnam will become stronger and more prosperous, and strengthen its role in the Indo-Pacific region.

He vowed to maintain defense cooperation with Vietnam particularly in marine security, UN peacekeeping, humanitarian aid, and disaster relief.
