The Vietnamese delegation was led by Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Chi Vinh, Deputy Minister of National Defense, while the US delegation was headed by Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for South and Southeast Asia Amy Searight.

The two officials praised efforts by both sides to implement an MoU on bilateral defense cooperation - especially in recovering soldiers missing in action (MIA); clearing bombs, mines and other un-exploded ordnance (UXO); and cleaning up Agent Orange/dioxin and a Joint Vision Statement (JVS) guiding future defense cooperation, as well as other agreements signed by senior leaders of the two countries.

They also reached consensus on cooperation at multilateral forums, particularly as part of the ADMM+.

Searight reiterated the US’s stance that disputes should be resolved peacefully and any acts contrary to international law should be halted.

Mr. Vinh handed over to the US a number of memorabilia of American soldiers who served in the Vietnam War.
