Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh told US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan in Washington DC on Friday that Vietnam always considers the US one of its most important partners and praised the National Security Council’s role in its cooperation with the ASEAN to hold this special summit, reflecting the Biden Administration’s strong commitment to the region.

Jake Sullivan said that the US attaches importance to relations with Vietnam. He voiced the US’ continued support for Vietnam to cope with such challenges as the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change, and risks of supply chain disruption.

Both shared common views on regional and international issues. They agreed that security matters must be delt with based on the international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

The same day, the Prime Minister received President and Chief Executive Officer of Murphy Oil Corporation Roger Jenkins.

Prime Minister Chinh spoke highly of the cooperation and active participation of Murphy Oil in oil exploration activities in Vietnam and welcomed the corporation's plan to expand operations on the basis of “harmonious interests and shared risks”.
