Vietnam wins gold at 2013 International Chemistry Olympiad

His three schoolmates won silver medals. Do Quy Son, head of the Vietnamese delegation, shares his view: “Though this year’s competition was very difficult, our team has maintained the position we attained in the past decade as one of world’s leading teams.

At the closing ceremony in Moscow on Tuesday, gold medalist Phan Quang Dung said “I’m very happy, I didn’t think I would won a gold medal in this year’s competition. I’ve done my best and would like to thank my teachers, parents, and all the friends who have stood by me to encourage me.

The 9-day Chemistry Olympiad took place from last Monday. Students from 77 countries competed in both theoretical and practical tests. Vietnam will host the next contest in 2014.
