Vietnamese footballers assist flood victims

(VOVWORLD) - Local footballers have joined citizens nationwide to raise funds in an effort to support the victims of recent flooding which has hit central Vietnam.

Former Vietnamese international striker Nguyen Anh Duc, who lifted the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Suzuki Cup 2018 with his team mates, donated 50 million VND, equivalent to 2,170 USD, to flood victims. He also called on spectators to participate in charity  activities to help those impacted by the natural disasters.

Hanoi FC’s key players Quang Hai and Van Hau put signed shirts up for sale to raise funds for victims. Star Quang Hai is set to join Thanh Luong and Thanh Chung, also of Hanoi FC, in a friendly match on November 11 in a fund-raising event. 

Meanwhile, defender Bui Tien Dung of Viettel FC gave away his shirt from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U23 Championship in 2018, when the Vietnamese squad finished as runner-up, to an auction. In addition, HAGL FC striker Van Toan also sold his jersey for 2,170 USD, as part of charity activities in central Vietnam.

U22 side star Tien Linh played in a friendly match alongside other footballers in Ho Chi Minh City, to raise funds for flood victims. 

Forward Cong Phuong of Ho Chi Minh City FC spent the 430 USD bonus as the best V-League player in July and September to support locals in central Vietnam.

V-League organisers launched a fund-raising campaign to help deprived people in flood-hit areas of the country.
