Vietnamese military sappers, doctors return home from UN peacekeeping mission

(VOVWORLD) -165 members of Vietnam’s Military Engineering Unit Rotation 2, have fulfilled their peacekeeping mission at the UN Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) and were welcomed home with a ceremony at  Noi Bai International Airport on Saturday.

Major General Pham Manh Thang, Director of the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations under the Ministry of National Defence, lauded the efforts made by the soldiers during their one-year term in Abyei, leaving lasting impressions on international friends and local people in particular about a friendly and responsible Vietnam.

He commended the four officers who had completed their tasks well and voluntarily continued to stay in Engineering Unit 3.

The welcoming home ceremony for Level 2 Field Hospital Rotation 5, including 63 officers and staff who completed the United Nations peacekeeping mission in South Sudan, took place at Tan Son Nhat Airport on Saturday.

During its term, the field hospital examined and treated over 2,300 patients, organized air transport for 15 cases and performed successfully 27 surgeries.

On September 24, another engineer unit and field hospital departed for a United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Abyei Region and South Sudan, replacing the military sappers and doctors who completed their mission and returned home.
