The bridge is a crucial transportation link that directly affects security, the local economy, and residents’ daily lives. Its prolonged deterioration had hindered UN peacekeeping patrols, disrupted civilian travel, and slowed humanitarian aid delivery.

At the handover ceremony, Lieutenant Colonel Trinh Van Cuong, representing Engineering Unit Rotation 4 under the UN Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), affirmed that the mission of Vietnamese peacekeepers is “not only to protect peace but also to build it.”

On this occasion, the Vietnamese peacekeepers also distributed humanitarian aid packages, including food and essential supplies, to local residents living near Banton Bridge.
