Vietnamese qualifies for Chopin International Piano Competition for first time in 40 years

(VOVWORLD) - Nguyen Viet Trung has become the first Vietnamese artist to compete in the world-renowned Fryderyk Chopin International Piano Competition for the first time in more than 40 years. Vietnamese Dang Thai Son won the 5th competition in 1980.

The 18th competition will take place in Poland from in October this year with the participation of 87 contestants from around the world.

The International Chopin Piano Competition is the most popular music event in Poland and one of the most important music events in the world. 

Hanoi-born Nguyen Viet Trung, 25, has won many international prizes including First Prize at the Lodz 2005 Emmy Alberg Competition in Poland, the Grand Prize at the National Piano Competition in Krakow in 2014, and Grand Prix and First Prize at the All-Poland CEA Auditions (2014).

He has performed at concerts in Poland, the US, Germany, Russia, Ukraine, Hungary, Vietnam and Japan.
