Vietnamese top leaders meet with Governor-General of Australia

(VOVWORLD) -Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong welcomed the Governor-General of Australia Peter Cosgrove’s visit to Vietnam on Thursday as both countries celebrate the 45th anniversary of bilateral ties. He expected deeper cooperation in all fields following the establishment of a new strategic partnership in March.

Mr. Trong said that Vietnam always supports Australia’s role in the Asia Pacific region and praised civic exchanges for bilateral relations development.

During his meeting with the Governor-General the same day, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc called for more trade and investment cooperation through the removal of trade barriers to facilitate business cooperation.

In a reception for the Governor-General, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan reiterated the legislative body’s support for more practical cooperation in a strategic partnership between the two countries. She said both countries’ friendship parliamentarian groups will develop a cooperative agenda to boost bilateral ties. The Governor-General praised Vietnam’s sending of peace keeping mission to South Sudan and pledged logistic support for the mission.
