Meeting with President Nguyen Xuan Phuc on the sidelines of the APEC 2022 Summit, on Saturday, in Bangkok, Thailand, the IMF's Managing Director said that Vietnam achieves high growth, is an open, dynamic and resilient economy which has undergone the Covid-19 pandemic. She added accelerating structural reform and shifting to a green growth model will create new momentum to Vietnam's economy.

Georgieva said she hopes that Vietnam continue to contribute to the global agenda of transforming growth models and securing supply chains. She pledged further support and advice for Vietnam in economic management and growth model reform.

The IMF Managing Director accepted the invitation by President Nguyen Xuan Phuc to visit Vietnam in 2023.

In an update report published in mid-October, the IMF revised up its forecast for Vietnam's GDP growth in 2022 by 1 percentage point to 7%. The lifting of Covid-19 restrictions, strong demand from trading partners, recovery in manufacturing, retail, services, and tourism and good control of inflation are contributors to Vietnam’s impressive growth, according to the IMF.
