According to the Vietnam Maritime Administration, Vietnam's seaport system has increasingly developed, thus improving its service quality and competitiveness against other countries in the region.

Many professional port operators and major shipping lines in the world have used seaports in Vietnam. Singapore PSA Group, the world's third largest port operator, Denmark APMT Group, the world's second biggest port operator, and Hong Kong Hutchison Port Holdings, the world's No.1 seaport operator all have invested in seaports in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province. Major shipping lines consist of Wanhai Lines of Taiwan (China) and Mitsui O.S.K line, MOL, and NYK of Japan.

The Administration says in addition to 25 transport routes to America and 3 to Europe, Vietnam has more than 100 intra-Asian routes, focusing on port clusters in Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Da Nang, Quy Nhon, Quang Nam, Ho Chi Minh City, and Vung Tau.

Vietnam is one of three countries with the largest transport routes in the region. Its current capacity is a premise for shipping lines to use Vietnamese seaports as an important link in the global shipping chain.
