(VOVworld) - The Vietnam’s ports will promote its reform and upgrade for international integration. This was confirmed by the Vietnam Seaports Association at its annual meeting in the central city of Danang on Tuesday. In the coming time, the Association will propose a range of measures to the government to enhance the market transparency and openness. This will help to stabilize prices, strengthen foreign relations and allow the country to play a bigger role in the Asian Ports Association and the International Associations of Ports and Habors. It will ask for advice from domestic and international consultants and work with the relevant agencies to solve common issues related to developing ports and the maritime community. Le Cong Minh, President of the Vietnam Seaports Association, says ‘Over the past 17 years since it came into being, the Association has developed a great deal and this period is a milestone in the country’s development, with the maritime economy playing a key role. Each member of the Association realizes its responsibility to the country’.

Vietnam is seen as one of the world’s leading potential maritime markets thanks to its advantageous geographical position. Last year, the total amount of cargo passing through the Association’s ports reached almost 160 million tons, 4% higher than the previous year.
