Viettel urged to become role model for Vietnam’s SOEs

(VOVWORLD) - Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group (Viettel) must uphold its role as a pioneer in creating a digital society and become a role model for Vietnamese state owned enterprises (SOEs), said Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh during a working session with Viettel leaders on Tuesday.

Mr. Chinh asked the firm to focus on developing a hi-tech defence industrial complex and a civil equipment manufacturing industry, towards turning Vietnam into a developed industrial country.

Viettel’s successes are a testament to the development of SOEs, he said, adding that the group should produce electronic chips and take the role of leading the digital transformation process and the building of a national database.
Viettel now operates in over 10 countries worldwide with nearly 50,000 staff members.
It was the most influential Vietnamese enterprise in terms of innovation in South Asia and Southeast Asia in 2021 and held the number-one position in the Top 50 most valuable brands in Vietnam. In 2022, Viettel ranked 18th among the world's most valuable telecommunications firms with a brand value of 8.7 billion USD.
