Teacher Thang has been paralyzed since he was very young. During his school days, Thang always got the best academic results and took part in sports and extracurricular activities.

After graduating from Yen Bai province’s Teachers Training College, he taught biology and chemistry at Tu Le Junior Secondary School.

“I always try to do my best. The school staff and my colleagues are supportive and encourage me a lot,” said Thang.

Despite difficulty getting around, Thang traveled dozens of kilometers along forest roads to persuade parents who lived a long way from the school to make sure their children came to class.

Thang is creative about making his lessons vivid and interesting. Hoang Thi Thuy, a 9th grader at Thang’s school, told VOV: “I really admire him. He’s a great role model for us to follow. We study hard to live up to his expectations”.

For 18 years, Phan Van Thang has contributed to improving education at his school and has been a great role model.
