In recent days, many of Phuong’s relatives and friends have visited her to congratulate her on her outstanding result. But when she talks about her study, Phuong always says she is an ordinary pupil and is no more special than her peers. She has never overly concentrated on her marks. For her studying is a serious but relaxed activity. “I don’t study under stress or strictly follow any model. Every pupil absorbs the lesson in their own way and I choose a suitable way for myself. I try to comprehend the basic knowledge, and study when I feel relaxed but able to concentrate.

Phuong says in class she not only listens to teachers’ lectures but also tries to understand the lessons in other ways. By transforming the teacher’s knowledge into her own, she can remember it longer and is able to apply it in other lessons.  Phuong says: “I listen to the lectures attentively. Teachers tell us many interesting things and we should turn them into personal knowledge. I always ask why, and I’m creative and flexible in solving exercises.”

Principal of Thang Long – Da Lat school Dam Thi Kinh says Phuong studies all subjects well and ranks 5th in her grade 12.  Phuong’s perfect marks in the university entrance exams is partly due to the school’ teaching and learning method. “In recent years, we have built a comprehensive educational environment. In addition to academic studying, we have generated more extra-curricular activities than other schools. These activities give the students the momentum to overcome difficulties in pursuing their passion. A majority of our pupils pass the university entrance exams with high marks. This year, Phuong makes us exceptionally proud”, Principal Kinh elaborates.

Phuong passed the exams for the Ho Chi Minh City Medicine and Pharmacy University and the Mathematics Faculty of the Ho Chi Minh City Teachers’ Training University. Phuong told us that carefulness is one key to obtaining a good result. “I finished my exam paper well ahead of time.  I checked it again and found many mistakes. If I hadn’t checked it I would only have earned a mark of 27. My advice is to check your paper thoroughly if you have time.

Phuong says she would love to be both a teacher and a doctor. In the end she decided to study to be a dentist at the Ho Chi Minh City Medicine and Pharmacy University.
