Local man on a mission to keep the local beach clean
(VOVWORLD) - Over the past 5 years, Huynh Duc Phuc of Phan Ri Cua town in Binh Thuan province’s Tuy Phong district has collected trash along the local beach every day. Phuc’s tireless efforts have encouraged the local people living near Doi Duong beach to better protect the environment.

Town Phan Ri Cua has a beautiful curved beach named Doi Duong which Huynh Duc Phuc considers an indispensable part of his life. No matter how busy life gets, Phuc and his friends try to collect plastic bottles and nylon bags along the beach everyday. Phuc told VOV: “I go swimming everyday and our beach is so beautiful. The local authorities have organized so many campaigns to encourage the locals to keep the environment clean and green. However, it’s not easy to change their bad habits overnight. I really hope that they will join my efforts to protect our beach and environment.”
Phuc’s activities have been enthusiastically received by the local people who have stopped littering and started collecting trash along the beach.

“We established a club with volunteers to go and clean the beach everyday. Some members are busy and can not join frequently. Phuc is different. He never lets a day go by without cleaning the beach,” said Hoa Van Ngoc, one of the local people.
Many people, including visitors, have followed Phuc’s efforts. Whenever they visit the beach, they try their best to keep it clean and sometimes even join the locals to collect trash. Nguyen Thi Diem owns a restaurant called “Blue Sea” by the beach. She said: “Visitors have joined us to collect trash. Phuc often cleans the beach in the morning before he goes to work while my staff and I do the work every afternoon.”
“Huynh Duc Phuc has set a very bright example for local efforts to keep our beach environment clean and green. In 2019, Phuc was honored at a ceremony to review a campaign to encourage the local to study and follow President’s Ho Chi Minh’s ideology and moral lifestyle. In addition to Phuc, the local Youth Union and different organizations have also responded enthusiastically to the local campaigns to protect the environment," said Tran Quoc Tai, Deputy Chairman of Phan Ri Cua town’s People’s Committee.
Once a polluted coastal town, Phan Ri Cua has since organized various activities to encourage the local people to collect trash near the river and sea dykes while installing cameras in these areas to strictly punish violators. Thanks to efforts made by local authorities and people like Phuc, Phan Ri Cua has seen significant improvements in the locals’ awareness of environmental protection./.
