(VOVWORLD) - 79 journalistic works were given the Dien Hong Award, a press award of the National Assembly and People's Council, at a ceremony in Hanoi on Friday. The series "Increasing decentralization, giving trust" by journalists of VOV’s Current Affairs Channel, VOV1, won the A prize in the radio category. In 2022, the 15th National Assembly initiated a supreme oversight program on the implementation of the National Assembly's Resolution on three National Target Programs: building new rural areas in the 2021-2025 period, sustainable poverty reduction in the 2021-2025 period, and socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountain areas in the 2021-2030 period.

These three national targets on socio-economic development and poverty reduction in disadvantaged areas and the implementation of Party and State policies in ethnic minority areas aim to solve problems in agriculture in response to the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress.

Journalists Tuyet Mai, Le Tuyet, Van Hong, Ha Thao, and Uong Huyen, are senior journalists with the VOV1 channel with many years of experience reporting on legislative work.

Journalist Le Tuyet talked about the serial report entitled “Increasing decentralization, giving trust”. “We followed the situation in localities and their difficulties in implementing the three National Target Programs. Meanwhile, the National Assembly launched a supreme oversight program on the implementation of the three programs. We identified the topic, collected documents, and worked in Ha Giang and Quang Binh province. Ha Giang is one of the localities that have best achieved one of the targets – building houses for the poor. Quang Binh, meanwhile, has not yet achieved the set targets.”

Journalist Van Hong said within a short time, 15 days, her team completed the serial report: “We compiled the reports at a critical time when discussions on the issues were also being debated by the National Assembly. Opinions of the National Assembly deputies on these issues gave us additional ideas. When we embarked on field trips to localities and collected people’s real-life stories, which motivated us to make their voices heard on the national radio.”

The journalists divided themselves in two groups to interview the people and officials of Xin Man commune, Xin Man district, Ha Giang province, and Thuong Trach commune, Bo Trach district, Quang Binh province, and then report on their efforts to realize the three target national programs.

Journalist Uong Huyen recalled: “The most difficult thing was producing 3 articles in a very short time to fully cover the pros and cons of implementing the programs. The disadvantaged localities were difficult to reach. The ethnic people live and farm in remote mountain areas. We went to their terraced fields and climbed the hills to meet them, which sometimes took all day.”

Journalist Le Tuyet said: “Making these reports was emotional. In Ha Giang we went to a beet farm to observe a hunger eradication and poverty reduction model. We saw people chatting happily while harvesting beets. In those remote the mountains, seeing people harvesting beets made us happy, because we found out that the Party and State programs are fruitful and make people happy. On the other hand, in Quang Binh we reported the thoughts and feelings of officials who have not been able to achieve the national targets. They are dedicated and want to help people escape poverty. They opened their hearts to the reporters.”

The series "Increasing decentralization, giving trust" won the A prize at the 2nd Dien Hong Awards, recognition for the efforts and dedication of VOV’s journalists in producing outstanding journalistic works.

Journalist Ha Thao said: “My colleagues and I are very happy to report the opinions of people and officials on our radio channel. The National Assembly and the government can listen to those opinions and make appropriate policy adjustments. When people’s voices are heard and elicit support, it will improve lives and national programs will benefit the people.”

The Dien Hong awards encourage journalists to work harder, promote their role as a bridge between the National Assembly and voters nationwide, and help the National Assembly perform their role as the representative of the people and the highest State authority.
