(VOVWORLD) - As long as they are strong enough to work and participate in social work, senior Party members always strive to fulfill their duties in any circumstance. They are shining examples for younger Party members to follow.

Doan Van Khanh, 70 years old and 50 years a Party member, from Tien Giang province, is the director of the Long Thuan Company, which specializes in processing products made of grapefruit and coconut.
Over the past 20 years, his business has developed 50 types of products, which are available in supermarkets and stores nationwide and in foreign market. For many consecutive years the company's products have been certified as high-quality Vietnamese goods meeting international standards. Typical products are grapefruit essential oil to prevent and treat alopecia and grapefruit juice to treat digestive diseases and hyperlipidemia.
Khanh, who is an herbalist, examines people with ailments and prescribes traditional medicine for them. He also cares for Party members, veterans, and others dealing with personal problems.
For his contributions, Khanh has been awarded hundreds of certificates of merit and commemorative medals.
“During the resistance war for national independence, I was ready to fight until my last breath. Now in peacetime, in the same spirit, I’ll work until I no longer can. The fruit trees in my garden produce quality products without harming the environment,” Khanh told VOV.
65-year-old Le Van Thuy is another senior Party member in Tien Giang. An excellent farmer, Thuy has a 1.8ha garden devoted to white-fleshed dragon fruit. His garden, which uses advanced production technology under the VietGAP standards, yields between 50 and 60 tons of dragon fruit per year.
Thuy composts fish waste into organic fertilizer. He has designed iron trellises for the dragon fruit vines to climb, which increases yields.
This model has given his family an income of 59,000 USD a year, said Thuy, adding that as a Party member, he wants to contribute more to society and set an example for the younger generation to follow in building a more developed village and homeland.
“I’ve applied new trellis techniques and introduced semi-industrial production processes, from watering to fertilizer spraying. I also make my own organic fertilizer, which helps the trees grow better and have a longer lifespan,” said Thuy.
Nguyen Van Nam, Secretary of My Tinh An commune’s Party Committee, commented on Thuy and his economic model, “Mr. Thuy is a good farmer. He always does his best in production and social work, and is spoken of highly by the locals. Local farmers and those from other localities have come to learn from Thuy's economic model.”

Many senior Party members in neighboring Ben Tre province are also engaged in social activities. One example is Tran Cong Ngu, former Deputy Chairman of the Ben Tre provincial People's Committee and currently Chairman of the provincial Association for the Support of Poor Patients, Disabled People and Orphans.
Every year the Association raises donations from domestic and foreign benefactors to pay for surgeries for thousands of poor patients and disabled people, provide free charity meals, build roads, and give scholarships to poor students, said Ngu.
“Economic difficulties continue, so I work with the local authorities to implement social security programs. I want to do my part to take care of people,” Ngu noted.
Senior Party members in the Mekong Delta work and participate in social activities every day. They set a shining example for the younger generation to continue national development.
