European firms optimistic about Vietnam’s business climate

(VOVWORLD) - The Business Climate Index (BCI) unveiled by the European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EuroCham) on Wednesday showed that European businesses are more positive about Vietnam’s trade and investment environment in the last few months.

In the first quarter of 2020, when social distancing and travel restrictions brought normal business operations to a halt, the EuroCham BCI fell to its lowest ever score of 27 percent.

Because of its world-leading public health and economic response, however, Vietnam was able to return to business as usual much sooner than other countries, many of whom are still struggling to contain the virus.

As a result, the positive sentiment of European business leaders bounced back, recording a 7 percent jump between February and April to reach 34 percent.

EuroCham Chairman Nicolas Audier called Vietnam one of the international success stories of the COVID-19 pandemic, and said the data shows that the government’s effective and sure-footed handling has had a tangible impact on the confidence of European business leaders.
