Humanity during COVID-19 lockdown in Ho Chi Minh city

(VOVWORLD) - The COVID-19 pandemic in HCMC has become more complicated. Hundreds of thousands of people have faced hardships of losing jobs, lower incomes, and are unable to afford daily meals. Together with the administration, people in Ho Chi Minh city have helped each other by giving free meals.

The city has become much quieter than usual since it imposed a social distancing order on Friday. But there are a number of vehicles carrying food to reach people in every corner of the city.

People, who have received free meals, said: “It’s difficult to buy food. Kindhearted people have helped us overcome this difficult time.”

An impaired girl said: “People like us can not go to the market. We are thankful to donors to give us food. I can’t hold back my tears.”

A man living in a rented room said: “There are more than 100 motel rooms here. The renters live on selling lottery, collecting trash, and freelancers whose lives are deeply hard. I’d like to express my gratefulness for the support.”

The mottos “No one is left behind” or “No one goes hungry during pandemic time” have been realized.

Dang Khanh Duy, Director of Tan Nhien Food Processing Company, said: “My company is in serious difficulty. But we try to open a food shop to give away free food for those in need. We have given gifts to border soldiers and many disadvantaged families.”

There are a number of humanitarian kitchens and social groups, who are silently giving away thousands of food packages to poor people around the city. Every one is doing their best to help others and together we will defeat the pandemic.
