Vietnam makes constant efforts to ensure human rights

(VOVWORLD) - Ambassador Duong Chi Dung said Wednesday that Vietnam will make efforts to ensure that its citizens fully enjoy human rights.

Addressing a panel discussion within the framework of the 37th session of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva, Mr. Dung said Vietnam has implemented international human rights commitments. Mr. Dung, who is the head of the permanent Vietnamese mission to the UN, the WTO, and other international organizations in Geneva, cited Vietnam’s completion of a national report on implementation of the International Convention against Torture and the International Convention on Civil and Political Rights. He said Vietnam has followed the recommendations of the UNHRC’s second-cycle universal periodical review, and is preparing for its third session, adding that Vietnam will continue to help the UNHRC protect and promote human rights.

The same day, the Ambassador attended a panel discussion marking the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the 25th anniversary of the Vienna Declaration and Program of Action, where he highlighted the universality of human rights, but noting the importance of considering the cultural and historical traditions of different countries.
