Vietnam praised for reducing gender inequality

(VOVworld) - A forum was held in Hanoi on Thursday to discuss Vietnam’s policy on gender equality.

In the opening address, Minister of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs, Pham Thi Hai Chuyen and Pratibha Mehta, UN Resident Coordinator said that Vietnam has been implementing gender equality practically through improving the legal framework, policies on gender equality, and implementing the national strategy on gender equality until 2020. Vietnam has been praised for developing many programs on gender equality and women advancement. Ms. Pratibha proposed Vietnam outline necessary measures to encourage, protect, and enforce the human rights of women and female children while responding to the world’s action plan to strengthen and expand productive health related services. The UN representative called on Vietnam to improve its mechanism on information collection, supervision, and assessment which will help the country to develop and implement laws, policies, and preventive measures more efficiently.
