Coast Guard Force, Binh Dinh Province to combat illegal, unreported fishing

(VOVWORLD) - The Coast Guard Command and Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee on Wednesday have cooperated to prevent illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing on the southern coast.

Binh Dinh province, which has 6,000 6m-length fishing vessels with 42,000 workers, issued regulations to manage and use information about fishing vessel monitoring systems in the province. All fishing vessels are required to install cruise monitoring equipment to minimize regulation vilation. 

Addressing the meeting, Deputy Commander for Law Enforcement, Senior Colonel Vu Trung Kien, said the Coast Guard had coordinated with local authorities to ensure fishermen’s compliance.

He said that the coast guard will propose policies to the Government to support and remove obstacles in the prevention of illegal and unreported fishing: “Through this working session, we will request the Government to direct the National Border Committee and relevant agencies to coordinate with neighboring countries in waters delineation to facilitate duty performance at sea.”
