Quang Nam awakes marine economic potential based on Chu Lai Economic Zone

(VOVWORLD) - With a 125-kilometer coastline, Quang Nam province has developed sea tourism and shipping and tried to tap the potential of its coastal industry with an orientation of multi-sectoral development toward becoming a powerful marine locality that helps ensure defense security.

Its two largest seaports, Chu Lai port and Ky Ha port, and two other seaports, An Hoa and Cua Lo, are located in Nui Thanh district, where Quang Nam is developing a logistics center to leverage its airports, seaports, and the Chu Lai Open Economic Zone, one of Vietnam’s eight key coastal economic zones.

Quang Nam is also planning to build a container center and Chu Lai International Airport in Nui Thanh district.

Le Tri Thanh, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, said, “The logistics services currently offered by Chu Lai don’t match its true potential because it doesn’t yet have a deep-water port with a port logistics area. Once local warehouse, transport, and service systems are set up, Chu Lai will become a major port center in the central region.”

Quang Nam is speeding up completion of a master plan to coordinate with other coastal sectors, economic zones, and services.

Tran Tuan Anh, Head of the Party Central Committee's Economic Commission, has called on Quang Nam to further develop its potential in the direction of innovate growth and restructuring to make its marine economy the main economic pillar.

“Quang Nam needs to exploit its potential to become a developed industrial province with a strong marine economy. Planning must ensure conditions and a legal framework to effectively exploit the resources of the marine economy,” said Tuan Anh.
