Vietnam rescues 303 Sri Lankan people in distress at sea
(VOVWORLD) - Last Sunday, Myanmar-flagged fishing vessel LADY R3, which was attempting to carry 305 Sri Lankan citizens to Canada, began drifting about 258 nautical miles southeast of Vung Tau Cape in Ba Rịa-Vung Tau Province.

Upon receiving the distress signal, the maritime search and rescue coordination centre immediately searched the waters to locate the fishing vessel and broadcast emergency signals to other ships in the vicinity. 6 ships passing through the area participated in the rescue.
The People's Committee of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province coordinated with the Consulate General of Sri Lanka on Tuesday in Ho Chi Minh City to receive those Sri Lankan citizens, brought them back to the mainland, and provided them with temporary accommodation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam has informed the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Hanoi and continued to closely coordinate with a number of international organizations, and relevant agencies to implement appropriate support.
