(VOVWORLD) - Litchi growers in Luc Ngan, Bac Giang province, made a fortune thanks to a bumper harvest last year. Farming households in Mieng Thuong village of Hanoi’s outlying district of Ung Hoa saw exceptional profit for engaging in trade. These were a case in point of Vietnam’s rural scene last year. The connection among farmers, businesses, scientists, and the state, as well as farmers and businesses in agricultural production has proven efficient for economic development.

In 2018, litchi growers in Luc Ngan, enjoyed the best bumper crop in 10 years. By the end of the season, Bac Giang province sold more than 200,000 tons of litchis and earned 250 million USD in revenue.
The achievement was attributed to Luc Ngan’s specialized production zones and litchi brand building. By those means, to date Luc Ngan has become the biggest fruit plantation area in the north. Local litchi growers have escaped poverty, built spacious houses, bought cars, and become rich. Most notably, Luc Ngan district has turned into a hub of fruit trees in Bac Giang bringing in a yearly revenue of almost 130 million USD.

A decade ago, there was nothing except rice fields and dilapidated houses in Mieng Thuong village on the outskirts of Hanoi. In recent years, the poor village has become the home of billionaires thanks to pork trading.
The achievements are thanks to the efforts by Hanoi and the northern provinces to strengthen connectivity and cooperation in production, business, and tourism development.
Nguyen Minh Truong, a member of the Vietnam Farmers’ Association, underscored the need to fully tap the potential and advantages of localities, restructure the economy, and boost growth.
He said: “It’s necessary to update farmers with market information and introduce them to new practical models. It’s also essential to mobilize farmers to participate directly in the models. Realizing the program’s efficiency, they will call on others to join the model.”
Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue has insisted that the government has prioritized coordination among farmers in their representative organizations such as cooperatives and cooperative groups.
“It is not the domestic market of more than 90 million Vietnamese people, but for the 7 billion people in the world. So the key is to organize production in accordance with the advantages of each region or each locality. It’s important to closely link the domestic and global markets to maximize the potential of each locality,” said Mr. Hue.
According to Deputy Prime Minister Hue, the core issue here is to promote market consumption and its link to the agricultural sector.
